Africana Studies
  • Students must receive internship approval by the director of the department before their application can be accepted and processed.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.

  • Students receive 3 elective credits.
Anthropology
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.

Architecture
  • Only open to majors/minors.

Asian Studies

Art

Business
  • Only open to majors/minors.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.
  • Students participate in the Topics in Community Engagement seminar through CPS.
  • Students receive 3 elective credits.
Cell and Molecular Biology
  • Students must complete a minimum of 70 internship hours.
  • Students participate in Topics in Community Engagement (TCE) seminar.
  • Students receive 3 CELL credits thru TCE that do not fulfill CELL major requirements.
  • Cell and Molecular Biology internships work in a variety of clinical settings or with agencies whose work relates to health care.
Communication
  • Offered during summer and spring semesters.
  • Students participate in the Communication Internship seminar with Dr. Peter Kunze of the Department of Communication. 
  • Students must receive internship approval from Dr. Kunze before their application can be accepted and processed.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 100 internship hours.
  • Students must be a Junior or Senior to be eligible.
  • Students receive 3 COMM elective credits.
  • Students completing summer internships must enroll in both public service and academic credit during the summer term, and therefore pay summer tuition. 
Design
  • Only open to majors/minors.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.

  • Students receive 3 elective credits.
Earth and Environmental Sciences
  • Only open to majors/minors.

  • Students must submit copies of their seminar reflection essays to their undergraduate advisor.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.

  • Students receive 1 FREN elective credit.
Gender Studies
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.

History
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.
  • Students receive 3 HIST elective credits.
  • Students either enroll in HIST 4560 which functions as an independent study, or for semesters when it is offered, enroll in HIST 4570 Public History/Internship Seminar. For independent studies, students must identify a professor in the history department to supervise their academic work.
  • Students enrolled in HIST 4560 or HIST 4570 do not need to take the CPS Internship Seminar. Instead, reading and writing assignments are at the discretion of the professor or incorporated into the public history seminar. Students should expect the academic workload (e.g. readings and writing assignments) to be consistent with the expectations of an upper level history class.
  • Summer history internships outside of New Orleans must be approved by Professor Brian Demare by April 15th.

Linguistics

  • Students participate in the Topics in Community Engagement seminar through CPS.
  • Students must receive internship approval the director of the department before their application can be accepted and processed.
  • Linguistics students must work with a faculty member in the Interdisciplinary Program in Linguistics for 3 weeks at the beginning of the semester, doing readings that relate to the internship placement, grounding themselves within current linguistic theory, and becoming familiar with related research.
  • Interested students may approach a faculty member from the department of Linguistics for more information.
Music
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.

Neuroscience

Political Economy
  • Only open to majors. Students must official declare the major before participating in the internship program

Political Science

  • Students participate in the Psychology Internship seminar taught by a faculty member in the Department of Psychology. 
Public Health
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.
  • Students receive 3 SPHU credits.
  • Students participate in the Leadership and Ethics in Public Health internship seminar. This seminar is designed for SPHU majors who are Capstone Eligible
  • Students may concurrently fulfill their Public Health capstone if they are eligible (typically a second semester junior or higher)
  • SPHU minors or other students that are not SPHU Capstone Eligible require departmental approval from Liz Langlois

SISE 
  • Students complete a minimum of 70 internship hours.

Sociology

Spanish
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.

  • Students receive 3 elective credits, which do NOT count towards the Spanish minor or major.
SCEN
  • Students must complete a minimum of 70 internship hours.
  • Students receive 3 SCEN elective credits.
  • Students participate in the STEM Education Internship seminar with Dr. Michelle Sanchez.
  • STEM internships are open to students with majors or minors in natural sciences (including biological chemistry, chemistry, geology, and physics,) engineering, and mathematics.
  • STEM internships provide opportunities for science, engineering, and math students in the field of education.
  • Internship placements must be in educational settings, including schools, Tulane University Upward Bound, and community-based tutoring programs.
Sustainable Real Estate Development
  • Students must be Juniors or Seniors and Real Estate majors/minors
  • Students must consult with the Real Estate Major Advisor for approval
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.
  • Students participate in the Topics in Community Engagement seminar through CPS.
  • Students receive 3 elective credits.
Theatre and Dance majors
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 internship hours.
  • Students receive 3 DANC or THEA credits.
  • Students participate in the Topics in Community Engagement seminar through CPS.
  • Students must receive internship approval before their applications can be processed and accepted. Dance students should contact Dr. Barbara Hayley, while theatre students should contact Dr. Marty Sachs.
