CPS provides a central location for community organizations and University members to connect, learn, and accomplish shared goals for public good and personal development. We offer opportunities for our partners to learn about using University resources and leveraging existing assets to serve community needs, working with students and faculty, and developing professional skills.
Our partners are mission critical. As co-educators, partners offer students practical experience as they apply academic knowledge to community engagement activities.
Tulane AmeriCorps VISTA members serve as liaisons between Tulane and the partner agencies, helping to create job descriptions, prepare training sessions and orientations, organize public service students in activities designed to reduce poverty, enhance civic engagement, and encourage program sustainability.
For The Children (FTC) provides academic assistance to hundreds of students in low-performing Uptown New Orleans public schools.
The Tulane Debate Society collaborates through the Crescent City Debate League with students, teachers and principals at over a dozen New Orleans middle schools, one middle school in Hazlehurst MS, and students and faculty at Xavier University. Our central goal is to provide opportunities for the middle school students of New Orleans to engage in civil and civic discourse and to empower them to become the leaders of tomorrow.
